What is an electronic cigarette?
Electronic cigarettes have gradually jumped into the mainstream to become the device of choice for millions of smokers. In fact, there is an estimated 2.5 million vapers in the U.S. alone. But what exactly is an e-cig?

First, we need to understand what it is not. Electronic cigarettes are not quit smoking aides and, while some vapers have managed to successfully use them that way, they are not meant to gradually get vapers off nicotine. What they are is an upgrade to smoking that provides more flavor choices, different styles to suit diverse looks, controllable nicotine intake and a great variety of devices to fit anyone’s smoking preference, all with a sharp decrease in the health hazards associated with smoking.

How Electronic cigarette Works
E-cigs are, in essence, just a battery connected to an electrical coil. This coil is the heart of an atomizer or cartomizer, warming up enough to evaporate the critical e-liquids when fed with electricity. This completely removes combustion from the smoking equation, and that alone cuts a great deal of the harmful chemicals and particulate traditional tobacco users are constantly exposed to.

These e-liquids wick into the coil through an atomizer cartridge or the internal reservoir of a cartomizer, and are composed of a few very simple elements: water, nicotine, food flavorings and a non-toxic glycerol compound that binds the components together and creates the illusion of smoke.

This glycerol compounds are usually propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG), both of which have decades of research proving their safety when inhaled. PG alone is commonly used in stage fog machines and asthma inhalers, while VG is used in many pharmaceuticals and food items.

The Safer Option
Study after study across the globe has proven that e-cigs are much safer than smoking traditional tobacco products. In fact, research from Health New Zealand found them to be 100 to 1000 orders of magnitude safer than cigarettes; and a study from the FDA found e-liquids only contain 8ng/g of nitrosamines (carcinogens), which is an amount comparable to the FDA-approved nicotine patch and much lower than the 11,190ng/g found in the leading cigarette brand.

Not only that, but e-cigs have also been endorsed by the Royal College of Physicians in the UK and anti-smoking organizations like Smokefree Pennsylvania. The Boston University School of Public Health has stated that, health wise, electronic cigarettes are the next best thing to quitting smoking now you know what is electronic cigarette.

Don’t give it a second thought, upgrade from the habit of smoking into the hobby of vaping!
