Email from the desk of Julie Woessner, President of CASAA
We know that hundreds of thousands of vapers and other THR supporters have been wanting to do something to respond to the proposed regulations. This is the first opportunity to do something that really matters. CASAA is doing the research necessary to offer advice to consumers about substantive comments as well as our own comments. However, it is clear that we will not be able to do this as well as we would like within the 75 days, and thus consumer comments will be less useful unless the deadline is extended. We will be submitting our own more detailed request for an extension within a few days (and if you want to wait an see that before submitting your own, you can).
The ANTZ (anti nicotine and tobacco zealots) seem to be organizing a campaign to push the FDA to not extend the deadline, and are implying that it is only industry that wants an extension. We need to make it clear why an extension is needed, that thousands of people support providing the extension, and that this is not primarily about industry’s interests. Again, there has been enormous interesting in doing something, and this has resulted in a lot of gestures that are unlikely to make any difference other than creating a feeing of having done something.
Please take the time to do this. It matters. (The link to the full First Call to Action is below.)
In light of the recent events concerning the FDA our home page will be dedicated to providing you with the latest news and information regarding the FDA’s deeming regulations on electronic cigarettes and what we as a community can do.
While we here at vapeBIG welcome any reasonable regulations that would ensure such requirements as labeling standards/warnings, ingredient reporting, age restrictions to prevent sales to minors, good manufacturing processes, etc… The proposed regulations would indeed force small AND medium sized manufacturers, vendors and retailers out of business, essentially turning the industry over to big tobacco and freezing innovation.
We would like to encourage all of you who have benefited from the use of electronic cigarettes to inform yourselves with the deeming regulations set forth by the FDA and be prepared to voice your opinions during the 75 day comment period currently in place. In the meantime it is business as usual for us here at vapeBIG. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, concerns or helpful information regarding the future of the vaping industry we have grown to know and love.

We expect CASAA to issue a formal “Call to Action” in a week or two from today (4/25/14). We ask that any comments directed towards the FDA at this time be postponed until a plan of some sort is formulated. What we need now is unity and organization.
